ZERO - welcome - Hello and welcome to The Path to Overcast Creek, or POC. - POC is a fairly new site, but Ranjit and I, the admins, have owned several RPGs and we like to think that we know what we're doing. - If you have any questions about the rules or how the game works, please feel free to PM one of the two admins: Ranjit [id: ran] or Befera [id: admin]. - If you are still confused, it would be a good idea to read the plot to get a sense of what POC is all about. - Rules may be added or changed at any time by the staff. An announcement will be posted if this occurs.
ONE - behavior - Disrespect is unacceptable. Be nice or we kick you out. - If you have a problem with someone, either fight somewhere else or kiss and make up. - The staff will not babysit you. If you're in a whiney mood, we don't particularly care. - Swearing/cussing/cursing is allowed to an extent in both OOC and IC posting. If someone tells you to stop spewing curse words, then stop. If it gets annoying, the staff will "have a talk" with you about it.
TWO - characters - There's a form to create your character or characters. Please use it. - You may make more than one character at a time, but the MUST have different bios in DIFFERENT threads. Each thread counts as one character. - Don't join with anything other than a horse. Don't join as a foal or a horse under two years of age. Do not join with a pregnant mare or a mare with a foal. Have some common sense. - As far as colors go, try to keep things natural, but you can add some fun eye colors or strange scars or markings to make things interesting. Just don't go too crazy with it and you'll be fine. - Please no accessories such as jewelry or feathers or chains. - Also no mutations such as wings or horns. They're horses, not pegaramicorns. - You must wait for your character's thread to be moved to the "Accepted" board by a staff member before you post with that character.
THREE - canons - As of now POC has one canon character available, and that is the infamous White Wolf Witch. Ranjit has made up a profile for her, and tryouts will begin as soon as there are ten characters made and five threads completed. If you're wondering why I've set those minimums, it's because I'd rather not have two horses in one thread and then whoever's playing the wolf witch popping in on every thread because there just aren't enough horses. It makes sense, yes? - After the Wolf Witch is admitted to a player, that player may post as her for one site season. Every season, another tryout is held so more than one member may play her as the plot continues. [Note: The same member may not play her two seasons in a row.]
FOUR - the ghosts - The ghosts are an essential part of the plot. If things seem pretty active, the staff will hold tryouts for people who would like to create a ghost character. Please read the plot for more information on the ghosts and their role in the game. - The ghost horses basically look like.... ghosts. Simple as that. Use your imagination. They work for the wolf witch and they may have their own special characteristics or memories from their lives. - When you horse character dies, you cannot reincarnate them as a ghost. Ghosts have to be completely original characters, meaning they can have their own distinct traits and personalities. Some ghosts are nice, others are mean. They may have their own names and breeds and colors and what not, but remember, they're ghosts, so they're transparent so their colors may not be as prominent. - Same rules apply for creating ghost characters as for creating regular characters.
FIVE - posting - The word count minimum here is 200 words per post. It's not too difficult, and even if you're running on low muse, just BS your way through it if you have to. You just need to give the person or people you're rping with something to reply to. - Behavior OOC also applies IC. Characters may have their own personalities and might be extremely evil, but don't be bullying other people's characters until there's tears all over the other person's keyboard. Don't be an asshole just because you think your horse is a god. - No powerplaying [controlling someone else's character], godmoding [saying your character is invincible], or metagaming [your character knows something automatically without having even discussed it IC]. It's basic rping law. Don't do stupid things.
SIX - time - "Liquid" time is allowed on POC, to a certain extent. To keep rping moving along smoothly and to keep things more exciting, any one character may be in three threads at once as long as it is clear that each thread takes place at a different time. - Seasons pass every month, so four months is one game year. If things are a little slow, seasons may go longer than expected so people can catch up. - If a season changes while you are in the middle of a thread, please continue that thread in the season in which it was started. You don't have to randomly change the season in the middle of the thread. - Please age your horses accordingly with the passing of time in the game. You may record any changes with your horses in your signature on your profile.
SEVEN - alliances? - There are two main alliances on POC. The ones who worship the ghosts and give them offerings so their lives may be spared, and the ones who plot to hunt the ghosts and their worshipers and attempt expel them from their lands. - Fights and battles may occur often between the "Worshipers" and the "Hunters", but its still unclear how to actually injure the ghosts because they are unlike living horses. - There is only one herd, and when you create your character, you may chose to be a regular herd member right off the bat, or a loner. The herd will not try to kill you for being in their territory. - Loners roam about however they please, and don't have to abide to the storyline of the plot if they don't want to. - Herd members must be apart of the plot, however. - As far as ranks are concerned:
- In the event where there are no other horses that want the Lead Stallion or Mare positions or there are no horses in the herd yet, make an IC post of your character claiming the position for themselves. It makes a written contract of sorts, and it shows how much your character wants to lead the herd. - Fight for higher ranks such as Lead Stallion or Mare [see fighting rules]. - Heir takes place of Lead Stallion or Mare after they die or step down, depending on gender. - In the event that there is no Heir, the Deputy takes the place of the Lead Stallion or Mare, depending on gender. - It's impossible to know at first glance which horses are "Worshipers" and which horses are "Hunters". There must be a conversation that takes place where one reveals their alliance, or an event must be seen that reveals it.
EIGHT - fighting - Please put a warning in the title if you decide to play out any mature content. Ex. "[M]" - Fighting can happen anywhere, anytime, over anything you want. - Try to decide OOC beforehand who will win the fight so we don't have to deal with number of attacks and dodges. - Follow the posting rules and be respectful of the other player. - If you can't settle an IC dispute yourselves, ask a staff member to butt in and assist you.
NINE - breeding and foaling - Please put a warning in the title if you decide to play out any mature content. Ex. "[M]" - Forcebreeding [a.k.a. pony rape] may only occur with the other player's consent. Do not randomly show up and write something about your big buff stallion raping the crap out of a random mare. If the other player says OOC that it's okay, then you can play out a forcebreeding scene where the mare tries to escape but is held against her will. It can be fun and dramatic to write if you do it in a way that doesn't piss everyone off. - Breeding and foaling is allowed any time of the year, and both can be rped out wherever you want as long as it's in the IC boards. - After a mare gets pregnant, the player of the mare must complete at least one thread where she is seen with a bulging stomach and all that good stuff. There must be another horse present to see this, and a conversation must ensue for it to be valid. - After that thread is completed, the mare may go play out the birth of her foal if she choses. - A mare may have one or two foals at a time. The player of the mare decides how they will look and act. - Until the foal is 2 game years old, it stays with it's mother. At age 2, the foal must have an accepted profile of its own for it to be rped by itself. - These horses who were born in POC may be distributed from player to player or just rped by the mother's player. Don't get preggers if you know that the foal will not be an active character. - Not all births will be successful. Your mare might get kicked in the stomach and the foal may die. She may have a miscarriage or the foal may not live very long after birth. These things happen, so remember that not every birth is gonna be perfect.
TEN - consequences - In a minor offense, an admin or another staff member will give you a verbal warning. - If you continue to break the rules intentionally, you'll be banned for a number of days, depending on the extent of the offense. - We don't use the warning bar, because it's pointless.
ELEVEN - activity - Activity checks are held in the "Updates" board, and are shown as announcements all over the forum. - There will be a closing date for each activity check, and if you do not post in that thread by the time it closes, your account will be deleted for lack of activity. You will not be banned or scolded, so you can come back and make another account if you decide to be active again. - If you are leaving for a while, please post in the "Away" board so your account will be omitted from the "delete list" if we are to have an activity check while you're gone. - "Busy with school, sorry" is not a valid response to save your account. Most of us are "busy with school". If you're too busy to get on and you know you won't be on because of your schedule, I'd personally rather have you quit. If you can't find time, then you cant. - Remember to notify the people you may be in threads with if you are leaving. No one likes a thread-ditcher.
TWELVE - accounts and signatures - You may only have one account. - If your signature stretches the boards, it will be removed by a staff member without notice. - Try to have a signature or an avatar that displays how your character or characters look. You don't have to have pictures for them, but it's a good thing to have.
ONCE AGAIN - thank you for visiting POC, and we hope you enjoy your stay here.
