Rank System - herd ranks and their descriptions
[m] = male, [f] = female, [m/f] = either gender
Lead Stallion [m] Lead Mare [f] Lead's Chosen Heir [m/f] Deputy [m/f] Shaman [m/f] Regulars [m/f] Elders Young Omega [m/f]
Lead Stallion and Mare - Both have the same amount of power, and are usually a mating pair. They don't have to be, but it's preferred, so they can produce an acceptable heir.
Lead's Chosen Heir - After the leads have a foal or foals,
Deputy - Usually a close friend of the leads who assists them when help is needed. Is also the successor to the lead mare or stallion, depending on the gender, only if there is no heir to take the throne. Can rise to power without a mate only in the event of a lead's death.
Shaman - Optional rank. The herd does not have to have a Shaman. Usually an elder, but can be any age. Is looked to by the herd for advice and guidance.
Regulars - Normal herd members. Can breed and foal and do whatever. There's no need to beg the Leads for permission.
Elders - Any horses over 17 years old.
Young - Any horses under 2 years of age.
Omega - Optional rank, meaning there doesn't have to be any omega horses. Like the slave or slaves of the herd. Treated like dirt because of something they've done or because of who their parents are.
